Are you are a great communicator, self-directed, and committed to advocating for public health care in Saskatchewan?


The Saskatchewan Health Coalition is looking for its next Provincial Director. As the organization's only paid position, the provincial director works closely with a volunteer board to carry out the organization's advocacy, membership development, and operational activities.


About Us

The Saskatchewan Health Coalition (SHC) is a non-partisan, democratic, non-profit coalition committed to advocating for a publicly funded and administered health care system in Saskatchewan. Rooted in the province's history as the birthplace of Medicare, SHC unites individuals and organizations to ensure quality care for all, with priorities including defending public health care from rising privatization efforts, advocating for national Pharmacare, improving seniors' care, and other important work.


Total Compensation

Hours: 30 hours per week (0.75 FTE)

Compensation: $4,800 per month ($57,600 per year)

Benefits: $2,500/year stipend provided for an individual benefits plan

Vacation: Four weeks

 

Working Conditions

Reports to: The Saskatchewan Health Coalition's Executive Committee

Location: Remote, from anywhere in Saskatchewan; Regina or Saskatoon preferred

Travel: Semi-regularly throughout the province and beyond to host, attend/table, or speak at events

Term: Three-year contract, with probationary period

 

Job Activities

  • Lead public campaigns and advocacy work, as related to defending public health care and other key priorities

  • Plan and execute events, town halls, workshops, and rallies, in accordance with our mandate

  • Represent the Health Coalition at conventions, rallies, and events, and build relationships with funding unions, community organizations, and allied coalitions, including tabling at conventions and other events

  • Recruit, manage, and communicate with our membership, including processing applications and renewals

  • Run the organization's recurring annual cycle: AGM preparation, the annual corporate filing, and coordinating renewals with funders and stakeholders

  • Develop communication materials, including graphics for social media posts, flyers, and outreach activities

  • Maintain the website and social media presence; prepare and send email blasts and/or a regular newsletter

  • Assist with financial processes and annual budget; manage SHC’s administrative activities

  • Stay current on provincial and national trends related to SHC's mandate

  • Manage board files and annual calendar, assisting with agendas, bylaws, policies, and board processes.


Required Expertise and Experience

  • A university degree and/or at least three years of demonstrated experience in administration, communications and outreach, and/or project management

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, from board reporting to public speaking to letters to the editor, and the ability to work effectively with board members, membership, and community partners

  • Comfort with basic design, messaging, and social media

  • Comfort working as SHC's sole staff person. This includes the ability to set your own work plan and schedule and to balance time-sensitive advocacy priorities against the role's recurring administrative load

  • Experience with membership recruitment and retention, as well as collaboration with community partners

  • Previous experience working with a non-profit board will be considered an asset

  • An understanding of and commitment to the philosophy of public health care; ability to understand broad policy change and its impact on the public; knowledge of provincial and federal government structure and jurisdiction; demonstrated advocacy experience; and knowledge of community organizing principles

  • Technology: Skilled in Microsoft word/google docs, excel, powerpoint (or other presentation software), and, adobe. Good working knowledge of G-Suite, Canva, basic website maintenance, online booking and email systems.

Our Hiring Process

After the application deadline, the hiring committee will review all applications and create a shortlist of candidates. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to the interview process and may request alternative interview methods if accommodations are needed.

 

Candidates selected for an interview will be asked to provide three references and to submit a short portfolio documenting related work (i.e. a writing sample and samples of messaging and/or design-work). Full guidelines for the portfolio will be provided if you are invited to the interview process. The successful candidate will be required to complete a criminal record check, reimbursed by SHC.
