The Saskatchewan Health Coalition (SHC) is a non-partisan, democratic, non-profit coalition committed to advocating for a publicly funded and administered healthcare system in Saskatchewan. Rooted in the province's rich history as the birthplace of Medicare, SHC unites diverse individuals and organizations to ensure quality care for all. Our priorities include defending public healthcare, advocating for national pharmacare, and improving seniors' care.
The Saskatchewan Health Coalition (SHC) is looking for a highly motivated individual who is self-directed and self-motivated and committed to the philosophy of public health care for the position of Provincial Director. This position is 32 hours a week with a monthly salary of $4800.
Education
University degree and/or demonstrated experience in areas such as administration, communications and outreach, and/or project management
Responsibilities
Reporting to the SHC executive committee, the Provincial Director is responsible for implementing the direction of the board, including:
Membership recruitment, management, and communications
Programming, including events and campaign coordination
Increasing awareness of the SHC through outreach and building relationships with other stakeholders, including tabling at conventions and other events
Developing communication materials, including basic graphics for social media posts, flyers or other information for the outreach tabling kit
Basic website maintenance and social media posts
Being aware of trends across the province and Canada on issues related to the SHC’s mandate (ex. privatization, pharmacare, seniors’s care)
This position is not responsible for managing organizational finances but does assist with ensuring the Treasurer has all documents needed for bookkeeping
Some occasional travel is possible with this position in order to attend, speak, or table at events
Skills and Abilities
The Provincial Director is the sole employee of the SHC and as such must be comfortable being self-directed and motivated, and setting their own work plan and schedule
Communication assets: Verbal and written communication for work ranging from emails to the board to public speaking to letters to the editor; ability to communicate and work effectively with board members, wider membership, and community partners and stakeholders
Membership recruitment and retention strategies
Political analysis assets: an understanding of and commitment to the philosophy of public health care; ability to understand broad policy change and impact on the public; knowledge of provincial and federal government structure and jurisdiction; demonstrated advocacy experience; knowledge of principles of community organizing
Technology assets: basic understanding of Google Drive and suite of programs, Canva, and basic website maintenance using programs such as Wix
Location - Remote from anywhere in Saskatchewan, Regina or Saskatoon area preferred

The Saskatchewan Health Coalition actively encourages and prioritizes applications from people who self-identify as members of groups or communities or as having identities that experience barriers to equity. Candidates selected for an interview will be asked to provide 3 references. The successful candidate will be required to complete a criminal record check, reimbursed by the SHC.
After the application deadline, the hiring committee will review all applications and create a shortlist of candidates. All candidates will be notified if they have been accepted to the shortlist or not, and they will have the opportunity to ask for additional details upon request. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to the interview process, and they will have the ability to request alternative interview methods if accommodations are needed. After interviews and reference checks are completed, the hiring committee will recommend hiring to the SHC board for consideration.
